Sierra comes from the Tsilhqot’in Nation, her community is Xeni Gwet’in (Nemiah Valley). She is currently a third year student at Thompson Rivers University where she is working towards a degree in social work. Some of her hobbies include horseback riding, sewing, beading, and working out.

 

Sierra owns a business called Chi?elas Creations. She makes a variety of indigenous clothing such as ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts, women/men’s regalia and beadwork. Sewing is her passion because It is a form of expression in every creation. 

 

She follows traditional teachings and a sober lifestyle. The hobbies she has picked up help keep her focused on this traditional path. She is passionate about her culture and helping her home community, every summer she dedicates her time by working within the community. She always spends time with her ?etsu (grandma) learning about the land and language. Sierra's grandma is the reason why she got into sewing, as she always looked up to her WHILE, she made her regalia and moccasins. Her grandma is her inspiration to become a better person everyday 

 

Sierra is an advocate for every child matters movement because this is something that has affected many members of her family including her grandma, who she looks up to the most in her life. With this platform Sierra wants to fight for more support to become available for every residential school survivor.
