Profile

Valyncia is an 18 year old from the Whitebear First Nation.

She is a graduate from Grenfell High Community School.

Growing up she has always had a strong opinion and put up an even stronger debate. During her early teen years, Valyncia has been an advocate for many social issues. She has spent many years advocating for clean access water in First Nation communities. From the years 2016-2018 she would occasionally go down to the United States to stand as an ally during the NO DAPL movement and the Paddle to Protect movement in support of First Nation Communities' access to clean water. During this time she learned to love the outdoors and off grid lifestyle. In middle school, Valyncia joined a public speaking competition in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, where she spoke on the issues of missing and murdered indigenous women, placing in two competitions and bringing MMIW discussion to classrooms. She continued to speak about the issue and statistics and eventually got publicly acknowledged. She was featured in articles from CBC and Eagle Feather News, and was later awarded Saskatchewan Future 40 Brightlight Award and FSIN Strength of our women award. Aside from her engagement in social issues, Valyncia has a passion for dancing Powwow, she recently started mentoring young girls into the Powwow circle. She has always looked up to models and beauty queens, and has walked the catwalk for a couple small businesses, she has also volunteered this past summer as a judge at a pageant in Regina Saskatchewan. She adores the beauty industry and wants to incorporate it with her current life. Valyncia’s educational goal is to major in Political Science, and possibly continue a path towards Law. She plans to break barriers and stereotypes and flourish in whatever path she chooses.
